He discovered his purpose in film after receiving a grant to document the influence of language, culture, history, and politics on the Catalan Independence Movement and directing a documentary entitled ’Kwizera: A Story of Hope Born from Resilience’ during his senior year at the University of Connecticut. Upon graduating with degrees in Molecular Biology and Global Health, Sahil joined UConn’s Office of Global Affairs and The Dodd Center for Human Rights as a Digital Media Producer. Catalyzed by the COVID-19 pandemic and globally historic events of 2020, Sahil co-founded Social Labs, an incubator for social impact innovation acting at the nexus of the arts, sciences, and humanities. He and his team have been developing open-access journalism and digital media verification tools, leveraging the power of citizen journalism to deliver global stories through a hyperlocal lens.
Most recently, Sahil served as a Creative Director & Producer at Cpics, a streaming platform specializing in English language South Asian and cross-cultural content geared towards diaspora communities, and as a Post Production Supervisor & Editor for bmp creative, overseeing post-production workflows and creatively editing pieces for Netflix’s various social channels across tv, film, live, and multicultural verticals.
When he isn’t behind the camera, you can find him on screen portraying characters that subvert norms, challenge expectations, and champion representation through specificity.
